spoon boxSpoon Box -circa late 1800's

Copied from an original found in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Spoon boxes were used in the late 1800's, and were popular because the large Amish families needed considerable amounts of silverware at their meals. The box could be stored in a drawer, then easily carried to the table. This made the task of setting the table much easier.

Shown here in Colonial Blue, the box measures 5"h x 11-1/2"w x 8-3/4"d. Price: $41.95. To see these boxes in York Red and Cupboard White, click here.

Found in Cumberland county, Pennsylvania, this pipe box is an example of those found in most taverns and inns in Colonial America. The pipes, usually made of clay, were stored in the top and tobacco was stored in the drawer. A patron could avail himself of a complimentary smoke and replace the pipe. The next user would break off a small bit of the long stem to insure himself of a clean bit!  The box shown here in Spruce Green and Black is 16-1/2"h x 4-1/2"w x 4-1/2"d. Price: $65 . spoon rack Spoon Rack - circa mid-1700's:

Fine silverware was not an item to be found in many homes in early America. Because the few pieces that were owned had been passed down through the family, they were greatly treasured.

The origin of this display rack is unknown. It may have been made by an amateur family craftsman incorporating an early "roof peak" design and simple carvings. Although our spoon rack is designed to accomodate "standard" sized spoons, we can also modify it to display small "collector" spoons. Simply notify us when ordering by choosing the "collector spoon" Spoon Rack.

The rack is 19"h x 8-3/4"w x 1-1/2" d. It's shown here in 1776 Pine with a Lancaster Yellow trim. Price: $49.95

curved spoon rackCurved Spoon Rack-circa 1700's:

This spoon rack features a box for knives below. People tended to display the spoons they owned, especially because knives were generally not made of pewter and therefore not very decorative, and forks were not widely used. Most family members had their own spoon engraved with either initials or a first name.

Although our spoon rack is designed to accomodate "standard" sized spoons, we can also modify it to display small "collector" spoons. Simply notify us when ordering by choosing the "collector spoon" Spoon Rack. Our curved spoon rack measures 24"h x 11"w x 4-1/4" d, and is shown in Colonial Blue.Price:$85. We also have a photo of the curved rack in Cupboard White, which you can see by clicking here.
